About Zen Shiatsu

"I have had Multiple Sclerosis for many years and started seeing Wendy after an acute episode. I feel that the treatments have helped greatly with my recovery from this episode and in the maintenance of my ongoing good health. After a shiatsu treatment I have noticeably higher energy levels and generally feel better."

Shiatsu is a "hands on" therapy based on theory deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It works on both emotional and physical levels bringing the mind and body into better balance.
Shiatsu can be helpful for specific conditions or as preventative healthcare. It is an effective and enjoyable complementary therapy, enhancing the quality of life.
The therapy is usually performed on a futon on the floor, cushions are used to support the body in various positions. Seated treatments can be given if it is difficult getting on the floor. Clients remain fully clothed with the practitioner using thumbs, palms, knees and elbows to work with the energy of the body.
In addition to being deeply relaxing and restorative, it can help bring awareness and improvement to bodily alignment to promote pain relief. It can be helpful for:
- Back pain
- Whiplash
- Neck stiffness
- Joint pain
- Reduced mobility
- Headaches
- Stress
- Insomnia
- Emotional issues
Shiatsu is wonderfully relaxing experience and can be enjoyed for no other reason than simple pleasure. As you remain fully clothed for shiatsu you should wear comfortable, loose, stretchy clothing eg leggings and a long sleeve top.
Consultation and treatment
The initial session involves taking a detailed history of your health and current issues. Sessions take an hour and clients are advised to wear loose, comfortable clothing. Each session is tailored to the client’s individual current needs, whilst also aiming to address underlying issues. In common with other Chinese Medicine modalities (Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs) recommendations may be offered regarding lifestyle, diet and exercise, to enhance self healing.
Wendy is a graduate of The Shiatsu College and is fully insured to practise shiatsu.
